The Mata Kuching Tree

We had a Mata Kuching tree in our front yard when I was young. I don't recall tasting much of the fruit as the tree was pretty barren save for a few fruiting occasions. However the tree with its sturdy trunk, low hanging braches and shady canopy allowed us to spent many happy afternoons playing under its shade. Be it on the make-shift swing , or some quiet time on its braches, or a game of 'Catching' around our garden, the tree was like a mighty guardian that stood proudly in the midst of us, shielding us from the stinging rays of the sun while participating silently in our activties.

As I grew up, the tree started to decay and its roots started to rot. Dad spent a lot of time pruning the braches and slowly duigging out the roots. Soon came the day when the tree was uprooted and was burnt in little bonfire in our garden. At that time, I had already outgrown the tree. I had friends and activities outside the home. I didn't have time for make-believe games in our garden. So the tree died and was soon forgotten.

But on this blog, it will have a spot to live, grow and maybe this time bear fruit. And so will all my other memories as I slowly uncover them and let them roam free on the pages of my blog.
